star wars rant (from a sequels fan)

i hate the modern sw fandom, no matter where you go or what the topic is, discussions and posts always get heated. people suck. nobody can just have fun, kick back, and enjoy movies. i feel like it’s all part of some astroturf bot campaign to sow discord online and generally make people miserable.

it’s especially bad as a huge sequels fan. the st gets soooo much hate. i’m not sure if we’ll ever get expanded canon lore/material like the prequels did—which, by the way, people HATED MORE THAN THE SEQUELS when they first came out. and now that all the pt fanboys have grown up, they’re treating the st same as everyone treated their favorite movies back in the day.

news came out that adam driver wants to come back and make another kylo ren/ben solo movie which would be dope as fuck. now the internet is all up in arms talking about how shitty the sequels are again.

st fans are bad too. they get defensive (understandably so) but then turn around and shit on the prequels as some sort of “gotcha”. some people aren’t even really st fans—they just like the last jedi and act like the other two movies are total dog shit

my favorite sw movies are the last jedi and the rise of skywalker (pretty much tied for #1), with empire strikes back being a very close second.

i didn’t grow up with star wars. i watched the ot for the first time in high school. i was 17 when the force awakens came out. i grew up into a young adult as the st released, and i think it really resonated with me because of that. also, rey is my star wars favorite character and one of my favorite characters EVER. i guess as far as live action movies go, she’s my top dog.

i think thematically it’s aged really well given the rise of the far right across the world and especially in america. the whole point of the st is that the legacies of previous generations—both good and bad—are always informing the present, and it’s up to the current generation to decide what to keep and what to discard. that’s so fucking cool and pertinent to the global situation happening right now!

also i think they are the most beautifully shot/designed movies of the franchise, and i reckon even the haters would agree there. the cinematography was really well done and there’s soooo many beautiful shots and effects. tros is one of my faves because all of the duels and set pieces are so fuckin cool and epic.

i could say so much more about the st but i don’t have the time rn haha. i just love them sm and it sucks when i have nowhere to talk about it online lol. i hardly visit star wars forums or groups anymore because it’s just so toxic. i really hope lucasfilm will ignore the haters and start making more ancillary content. and, needless to say, i CAN’T WAIT for the rey movie in production rn.
